Int Contemporary - Simonson Technique

7:30-9:00PM

Mondays
Starting April 8

Simonson Technique created and developed by master teacher Lynn Simonson is an organic approach to movement that prepares the body to dance in a way that is anatomically intelligent and somatically aware. The goals of Simonson Technique training are to eliminate the pre-disposition to injury from previous mis-alignment patterns, develop and support the body in a way that allows efficient and free movement, and, to experience the joy of dance with longevity and wellness. A teacher of Simonson Technique recognizes that each student is unique. Rather than ask students to fit a pre-described ideal, they are guided and taught as to what is anatomically correct for their bodies. Hailed as an intelligent and logical method to prepare the body for dance, the Simonson Technique has received recognition throughout the world since 1970 and is taught by certified faculty in 20 countries worldwide.

This class is a super physical sensation-based articulation of form via improvisation, imagination and heavily nuanced set material. Class begins with filtering our formal techniques with an active creative practice that encourages trust and choice-making. We will take ownership of our unique eccentricity, beauty, and darkness. We will cultivate the permission to reveal, explore, and revel in the effort and joy. We will gather to regenerate, discover, challenge, and applaud. We will dance via little physics and loud ways; sweat and move until we cannot.

Adding in the legs and then moving to the floor, the class gets in touch with every part of the body with a focus on expansion through strength in the core. GYROKINESIS®, as the non-machine format of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, is gentle enough for a non-mover, yet can work deep enough for a very active individual, providing an excellent form of cross-training for dancers and non-dancers.
